Bahamian Authors- Jewel & Chrystal

Jewel Moncur-Moss

Sprung forth from the Bahamian soil that bore both her parents; Cephas and Judy Moncur, on December 24th, 1983, God saw fit to gift Jewel Candice Alanda Moncur to the world.  Born and reared in Nassau, she and her younger sister were dubbed, The Princesses of Bel-Air.  With an Educator for a mother, and father, a Police Officer, she and her sister were encouraged to always strive for excellence.  Jewel attained a BBA in Business Management from the College of The Bahamas and is building her career employed in the field of Occupational Insurance. At the age of 10, it was discovered that she had a knack for writing when she was first published in that year’s “Time for Children”. Since then, her love for verbal expression, music, and the arts has been declared her joy. Jewel also has a passion for the youth of The Bahamas.  In 2015 she founded the club Kids For Christ Jesus which is a Child Evangelism/Outreach Club. She is a Certified Youth Leader and has been admitted into the Bahamas National Society of Youth Practitioners.

Unable to resist that rich Cat Island soil, the place of her parents' birth, Jewel says that her deepest fulfillment is derived from her family; husband, Denver Moss, and her “bronze beauties”; twin boys, two daughters, and stepson.  Most importantly, she notes God as her foundation and inspiration.

Chrystal Moncur-Simmons

On July 26th, 1985 a nearly 10lb bundle of noise popped into the world, her parents called their second, and last of two daughters, Chrystal Dianah. From that day onward she was a force to be reckoned with. Brought up in Nassau, Bahamas she and her big sister were the gems in their parents’ crowns; crowns they still wear proudly.  A "tom-boy" who loved the outdoors, Chrystal was very popular growing up. Once the girl who could pop a wheelie, fly over a car, bust her lip, and still come out the next day (with stitches to prove it!) to test ride the neighbor’s motorbike, Chrystal flourished into a beautiful young lady.

A talented artist and writer, Chrystal was often selected at school and in church to demonstrate her abilities; whether it was through her drawing, writing, or through her gift of musical expression. Having such a beautiful personality developed a wide fan base as she became a local Bahamian entertainer. Always able to hold her own with the big boys in a freestyle rap Chrystal really made a name for herself. Being so multi-faceted, writing came naturally to Chrystal; whether she was expressing her self through song, stories, poetry or plays, Chrystal has done it all. She is employed by the Bahamas Customs & Excise Department and enjoys her free time with her husband Craig Simmons raising their family, three sons, and one daughter.
