LITTLE BOY
Anna L. Lewis
Hey there little boy
Why do you look so grim?
With your head low
And hand under chin.
Go grab your hook and line
So we can spend some time.
You see many years ago
I was like you
Going along the sea rocks
Lookin' for something to do.
My grandpa then said
“Come boy let's have a chat”
And my vision changed just like that.
Do you know you can be
Whatever you set your mind to
A fisherman; a teacher, a lawyer
But it's all up to you.
Don't follow the crowd when they say
Come boy let's steal
Don't listen to the naysayers
When they say hell isn't real.
One crime can lead to the next
And prison can make your life feel perplexed
But you boy you’re better than that
I've watched you and you’re different.
To say the least
Hand-picked by God
Not to walk in defeat.
You're a leader, not a follower
Of that I am sure.
Don't let the wrong choices
Crowd your mental door.
There are so many things God has in store
Little boy resist them
Because crime don’t need to be explored.
So the next time you're hung down in defeat
Remember you're the head and not beneath.
