Join us in welcoming our author, Alvonia M. Collie to the Author Spotlight. We’ve asked Ms. Collie a number of questions which we hope will allow you to get to know her a little better.

  1. Where are you from originally?

I was born on the beautiful island of New Providence (Nassau) Bahamas

  1. Do you have a history of writers or authors in your family?

No, to my knowledge I’m the first to write and publish a book in my family.

  1. Did you excel in writing while in school?

No, as a child I disliked English a lot, my reading and spelling were poor because of it.

  1. How important is reading to you? Does it affect your writing?

Reading now is one of the most important and enjoyable things for me to do. I see it as a great opportunity to increase my knowledge. No, reading doesn’t affect my writing.

  1. What works have you written?

So far, I’ve written: WHEN BLIND EYES ARE OPENED

  1. Are you currently writing another book now?

Yes, I’m currently working on my second book.

  1. How long have you been writing books?

I just started writing last year, in 2019.

  1. Why do you write?

The reason I write is to educate people on matters they should be aware of.

  1. Did you always want to be a writer, or did you stumble upon this path?

No, actually I never thought of being a writer. It just happened because I wanted to share the knowledge I had with the world.

  1. Did you self-publish your book, or did you land a publishing contract?

I self-published with the help of Inspire Publishing.

  1. What is your process for writing books; do you create an outline before writing?

My process for writing is this: think about what I want to write, who can gain from my writing, get my laptop computer, and start writing. With God’s direction from start to finish.

  1. Do you have a daily writing regimen?

No, I don’t have a daily writing regimen.

  1. Do you consider yourself a full-time or part-time writer?

I consider myself a part-time writer.

  1. For your own reading, do you prefer ebooks or traditional paper/hardback books?

My preference is traditional paper/hardback books.

  1. How did you begin writing? Did you intend to become an author, or do you have a specific reason or reasons for writing each book?

I became a writer because of my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Who told me to write my books and share my knowledge with the world.

  1. How many hours daily to you devote to writing? Do you write a draft on paper, at a keyboard, or from an audio recording of yourself?

Once I start writing on a new book, I would write for about two to four hours, three to four times a week, most weeks. I don’t write a draft at all. I get my laptop and start writing that’s it.

  1. Does writing energize or exhaust you?

Writing energizes and excites me, as the words are written the characters seen to come alive.

  1. How long on average does it take you to write a book?

It takes me about two to three months to write a book.

  1. What genre are your books?

The genre of my books is Christian Religion.

  1. What draws you to this/these genre(s)?

My faith and trust in the Lord God Almighty drew me to Christian Religion.

  1. How much research do you do when you’re about to write a book?

Not much research is needed. I write on topics, I’m very familiar with.

  1. Have you written any books in collaboration with other writers?

No, I haven’t.

  1. Do you try to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

I try to be original and to deliver to readers the truth about what I’m writing.

  1. What is your take on the importance of a good cover and title?

I believe that a good book cover and title sells books.

  1. Have you ever designed your own book cover?

No, not as yet.

  1. Do you believe a book cover plays an important role in the selling process?

Absolutely, most people are drawn to books by the cover and title.
